Ruskin bond is a prolific writer and a well established author and has great fan following when it comes to younger readers. He has wide variety of books published and many of which are best sellers.
I happened to stumble on his book “How to be a Writer” while researching books on writing. Inspired by the notion that writing engages you, allows you to think clearly and helps learning and understanding – I chose to try the book.

The book “How to be a writer” is a short and quick read. Filled with just 123 pages and a larger font size this makes it a much easier and lighter read. That is because the book is primarily aimed at young readers in my opinion.
The book talks about various aspects of writing – including getting started, preparation, training, topics to write on and writers block. The content of the book may be interesting from the index but if you are an avid adult reader – it will lend you not much information and may give you a very few new insights.
That’s because the book is more helpful to a younger group who are just starting out with the writing aspects. It’s one of the best seller and most reviewed book on Amazon.
It’s more of an introduction on being a writer rather than actual core guidance on how to be a writer. So, if you have kids and are trying to instill the habit of writing this should be an ideal pick.
Not all books out there are catered to your interests and therefore it is wise to research a book before buying and investing the time to read it.
